Our Difference—Certified B Corp

We joined the movement!

In February 2014, New Chapter proudly achieved B Corp Certification. We’re part of a vibrant community of like-minded businesses who define success in holistic terms that encompass not just profit, but people and planet too. “Since wellness, sustainability, and ethical sourcing are our whole way of life at New Chapter,” says our founder, Paul Schulick, “we believe defining our success in these terms is not only exciting, it’s essential.”

What is a B Corp, exactly?

Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are a new kind of company that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. The B stands for “Benefit.” Becoming a Certified B Corp is like Fair Trade certification or LEED certification—but for the whole business, not just for a product or a building. B Corps aim to inspire all businesses to compete not only to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world. There are currently over 900 Certified B Corporations from more than 60 industries in 29 countries, and New Chapter is thrilled to be one of them.

We’re being the change.

Being a Certified B Corp aligns with New Chapter's established principles of nurturing body, soul, and Mother Earth. For instance, we believe it's vital to examine our business impacts and aggressively try to reduce our footprint. We have a continuing commitment to business practices that are based on the balanced, humane, and integrated Work Ethic stated in our company Credo. And New Chapter is devoted to several philanthropic partnerships at home in Vermont and across the globe. We look for organizations focusing on healing, for planet and self.

To become a Certified B Corp, New Chapter took part in a rigorous assessment conducted by B Lab, which certifies and supports B Corporations. You can view our report and B Score at http://www.bcorporation.net/community/new-chapter
